The Gauntlet by Eoin Colfer

Sophie,
Eoin Colfer
The Gauntlet
Disney Book Group 2016

This is the 'Iron man meets Artemis Fowl('s younger sister)' we've all been waiting for! When Tony Stark travels to Ireland to attend an environmental conference, things do not go as planed. "The Gauntlet' tells the well-loved story of harrowing escapes, a red-headed genius realizing her humanity, of the to-good-to-be-true superhero, and the over-powerful villain, but in a way that makes it seem brand new. Colfer does a brilliant job of maintaining his own, unique writing style, while keeping the well-known persona of Iron Man intact. I look forward to whatever Colfer has in store for us next.

The Secrets of Hexbridge Castle by Gabrielle Kent

Sophie, 16
The Secrets of Hexbridge
Gabrielle Kent
Scholastic Press 2016

Wonderful book! Very original. Kent's work with both female, male, and mythical, is masterful. They really leap off the page! The way Alfie Bloom (The Protagonist) is written, along with his two best friends, Madeleine and Robin, keeps the powerful puns and engaging dialogue coming. with a delightful cast of up-and-coming thespians, an inventive extended family, and one hell of a butler, 'the Secrets of Hexbridge Castle' is a well crafted must read for all fantasy fans.

While this book is most definitely aimed at younger readers, it is enjoyable for all ages. I would recommend this book to fans of Katherine Rundell's book 'Rooftoppers'
