Interesting and relatable.

I have read way too many post-apocalyptic books that say the same thing, he loves her she loves him, blah, blah, blah; but this book is nothing like that.  There may be love but the whole book is not focused on it.  I love all the action in this book, it kept me on the edge of my toes from the pig, to the canabalism, to the polar bear in the art museum.  This book is very different and I loved it.  I hope there is a sequel

I first read this book a few years ago and every year, I read it and its sequel again. When I first got the book, I waited a few weeks to read it but once I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I fell in love with this book and the next in the series, Ballad. I really liked that chemistry between the characters and loved James. Honestly, if I had a friend like James, that would be amazing. I personally have recommended this book to my friends who like adventure-y romances and the supernatural. The most compelling aspect is the suspense and timing of the book. Some of it was a fast read, but there are a few places where I still have to stop and re-read what's there.

Dark Metropolis by Jaclyn Dolamore

bethabellie, high school senior
Dolamore, Jaclyn
Dark Metropolis
Disney Hyperion Jun 2014

the book: a very enjoyable book. it was well paced with just enough twists and surprising connections to keep you wanting the next page. it has the right amount of glitz and gore to please a fairly wide verity of people without being overly graphic. Dolamore's writing style was easy to read and follow, with an attention to detail that wasn't overly stuffy and only very occasionally left me wanting just a bit more. just a well rounded book. definitely worth a read!

the characters: i did like the characters, they were all distinct. but, they weren't the strongest i have ever read. there wasn't a lot of building on their morals or anything like that throughout the story. nevertheless, these are solid characters.

the point: i like a book that really drives a point and leaves me thinking. this did have some interesting views but nothing that just lays you flat. so, if you are looking for a book edging on spooky, with good characters, great settings and an interesting story. put this one down with a star!
