The Demon King

I had picked this book up for the first time about a year ago, and I ended up not getting into it at all. It didn't help that at that time I was mostly only in the mood for strictly supernatural novels. I do have this process, however, where I never completely give up on a book. I'll wait a few months, maybe a year, and then I will pick it up again and try to read it. If it doesn't suit me then, I will wait a little longer (all the while reading other novels, trying to broaden my horizons) and try it again and again until I am able to thoroughly enjoy the novel in question. That is exactly what happened in this case. While I did not like The Demon King at first, after the second time picking it up and giving it a go, I realized that I had, in fact, fallen directly down the rabbit hole and in love with Chima's unique and diverse cast of characters. I am currently in the middle of The Exiled Queen and have designs on reading the rest of the series, however many she deigns to bestow upon us.
If it doesn't seem for you at first, try it again! It's worth it.

The Cadet of Tildor by Alex Lidell

The Cadet of Tildor
Penguin Group 2013

As a fan of strong heriones everywhere, I absolutely love Cadet de Winter. She's spunky, strong, and doesn't take crap from anyone. A fitting debut for a new author. I eagerly await Lidell's next masterpiece. Those who love to dive into the worlds of authors such as Tamora Pierce will easily find a place in Tildor.

Rhodes wove an intricate existence for her characters. Honestly, one of the best YA novels I've ever managed to get my hands on. Fans of Brandon Sanderson will love this.

Such Wicked Intent by Kenneth Oppel

Such Wicked Intent

This novel was a very interesting sequel to the novel "this Dark Endeavor" If readers haven't read the first book, this novel might be confusing. The sequel starts off shortly after the death of Konrad, Victor's twin brother. Victor and Elizabeth are in mourning, but that is short lived when they find a portal to a parallel world. There, they find Konrad, and discover things about themselves they never knew. I found this novel very interesting. It had wonderful imagery, and the writing style flowed easily. The world Victor encounters is both mystical and believable. I really loved the first novel, and the second one did not fall short of my expectations.

The Way of Kings follows multiple characters from several different backgrounds all of which relate back to the ongoing war somehow.   Shallan is a young noblewoman whose house is about to go bankrupt. To prevent this she plans on stealing the king's sister's soulcaster and use it to create several rock quarries on her land. Her love of books and uncanny ability to draw allows her to become the king's sister's apprentice and from their she begins to see a world far beyond any petty problems her house might have.  Kaladin is an powerfull warrior who was sold into slavery for his crimes. After several attempted escapes he is sent to the armies on the shattered planes to be bait for enemy archers.  Dalinar is second in command to the king and is the onlyone of the 10 high princes that attempts to follow the ancient codes of honor. He is seen as weak for doing so but he must unite the high princes against those who killed his brother.  I would highly recommend The Way of Kings to everyone. I believe it is the best epic fantasy since Lord of the Rings.

In the back of their mind, everyone who sits down to write a book wants to pen the next epic saga.  Most books don’t make it.  ‘The Way of Kings’ is an exception.   From the moment I opened it, I was amazed.  Brandon Sanderson has succeeded in drawing from the great authors without copying their plots and themes.  Roshar is its own.  It is a reader’s pleasure to view a world through the eyes of characters so resolved who embody (or are learning to embody) the word ‘noble.’  Rich themes lie under an equally rich plot line, weaving one of the best tales I have ever read.  Having finished it, I can only say that I wait eagerly for the next installment of the Archive.

This is an extremely well written complex fantasy. It features a multitude of well developed characters through adventures, hardships, hope and despair. The character don't know it but their destinies are tied together and also tied to the fate of the world . Sanderson's ideas of magic are original and interesting

I enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover. A fun adventure following Adelice through deception, love and a world unlike any other. Adelice is smart, witty, and easy to relate and connect to. Couldn't think of a better book. I certianly can't wait to read the next book.
