What can I say? I thought this was a great book! Here we go! 14 year old Laura Horton, your typical misfit in pursuit of normalcy, can't catch a break. Laura has recently moved into her Australian neighborhood's oldest and strangest residence, the Visconti House, completely unlike any of the prim and proper houses that line the streets of the town. Making it worse, her strange elderly neighbor, Mrs. Murphy, welcomes her loner grandson (Leon) into her home, and some unseen and (in Laura's eyes) cruel force keeps pulling them together no matter how hard she tries to pull away from him. However, they soon find a common interest. Her home. They begin to work together to try and find the reasons why an Italian nobleman ended up in Australia and built a manor where only one person ever lived. As the mystery is slowly pieced together, so is the understanding between Leon and Laura.

Rating: 4 Better than most
