Sam is your average college dropout, resigned to his life working the grill at Plumpy’s Fast Food when his medicine bag breaks. Yeah, his mom is one of those hippies who is an herbalist and names her child Samhain, but that medicine bag she made for him really works against those nightmares Sam has had ever since he can remember.  Sam’s just finishing up chipping gum off of the bottom of restaurant tables when the evil necromancer called…Douglas? Seriously, Douglas is the evil villain’s name? Anyhow, Douglas arrives and asks what another necromancer is doing on his turf. Turns out that Sam’s medicine bag is not just for bad nightmares, but has also been hiding his magical aura. Looks like his mom has some explaining to do. Now Sam has a decapitated head to comfort, a spirit guide who’s 10 years old and wants pancakes, and an escape plan to think up with a hot werewolf girl.   The magical elements could be cliché at times, but the characters more than made up for it with their humor and sheer likability. I laughed out loud frequently while reading this book and I would highly recommend this to anyone who ever read anything supernatural and liked it.

The book was really good from beginning to start. I liked all the abnormal things towards the beginning was a little confusing when it kept going back and forth from the scenes of Bird, Douglas and Sam.

To be honest, I thought this book might have been good.  A lot of people liked it, and it sounded appealing, but I didn't really get into it.  The style was descriptive, but typical at the same time.  The characters are good, but there's a lack of depth to them.
Rating: 3 Readable
